We were incredibly honoured to be asked to make a beer for Carwyn Cellar’s legendary Canvent calendar - an advent calendar but with beer. This opportunity gave us complete freedom to make what ever beer we wanted and do something experimental with can design.

And so Serendip was born. Serendip is an old Persian name for Sri Lanka, my father’s homeland (hence the -'ratne’ in Beererate), and so I wanted to pay homage to the tropical island and the serendipitous nature of making a Canvent beer.

Tropical Stout is strong roast stout, a style found in Sri Lanka (think Lion Stout), and but we added Jaggery, a sugar made from native palm trees and a bunch of tropical hops.

Each person who ordered a Canvent box would receive one of twelve can designs that align with twelve tarots. You would only know that there are other designs by talking to other people who ordered a box (or by looking the beer up online I guess).
